In a surprising move the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh after their loss to the Vikings in London. Now the Jets have to prepare for a Monday night showdown against their divisional foes. Despite a 2-3 record and the dismissal of their coach, a win, and the Jets would be tied for the division lead.
Buffalo Bills
After three games the Bills looked like Super Bowl contenders and Josh Allen an MVP favorite. But since then, the offense has struggled and Buffalo has lost two straight, albeit to AFC powers, the Ravens and Texans. The Bills struggled on third down conversions going 3-for-14 against Houston. Allen and company will look to ground and pound, as the Bills ran for 150 yards last week, RB James Cook scoring his fourth rushing TD in the loss. Defensively, trouble looms as cornerback Taron Johnson, safety Taylor Rapp and defensive tackle Ed Oliver are all questionable for Monday dealing with injuries.
New York Jets
Aaron Rodgers has looked average at best this season and has the fewest passing yards (1,093) and worst passer rating (81.6) after five games of a season in his 20-year career. The Jets couldn’t find success on the ground in London and Rodgers threw 54 passes and 3 interceptions in the loss. With the Saleh firing, it’s interesting offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett still has a job. How will the game plan change under interim Jeff Ulbrich? Breece Hall and Braelon Allen weren’t able to thrive under Saleh and perhaps this is the game the Jets try to utilize the ground game as the Bills give up the 7th most rushing yards, 144 yards per game.
Best Bet: Under 41
Buffalo’s offense has struggled against better defenses in the last two weeks and face another formidable unit while the Jets continue to struggle putting up points. With DC Jeff Ulbrich taking over as the interim coach, you can expect the defense to step up in prime time.
Player Prop Best Bets
Josh Allen: Over 34.5 Rushing Yards (-110)
In his last 5 games against the Jets, Josh Allen has averaged almost 50 rushing yards per game. He’s rushed for 39 or more yards in 3 of the five games this season.
Braelon Allen: Over 30.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
The rookie back has been getting more carries, minus the London game and has been productive as the second back. Allen has 33, 55, and 34 yard rushing games and should be able to rip off some yardage against the Bills, even playing behind Hall.
