It’s a Super Bowl rematch and could be a possible preview to this year’s title game. The Chiefs head to the Bay area to take on the 49ers. Kansas City remains one of two teams still undefeated while San Francisco is at .500 with a 3-3 record. Despite the discrepancy, the Niners are a slight home favorite. But can they hand the champions their first loss? Let’s take a look.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are looking for their first 6-0 start since 2013 and who else but Patrick Mahomes leads the way. He’s completed 70% of his passes, has thrown for 1,235 yards and has 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Not bad considering several of his offensive weapons have been injured. The ground game has become more important and Kareem Hunt had his first 100-yard game vs the Saints and will be counted on against the 49ers but San Fran has the 7th best run defense allowing just 102 yards per game. This could be the game where we see Travis Kelce finally get into the end zone. After just 8 receptions in the first 3 games combined, the tight end has 16 catches and 159 yards in the last two games.
San Francisco 49ers
After a devastating loss to the Cardinals at home, the 49ers beat the Seahawks on the road to regain control of the NFC West. Despite a 3-3 record, Brock Purdy has played well completing 65% of his passes for 1,629 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 4 picks. And this game appears to look like another game Purdy will have to throw the ball often. While San Francisco averages 158 rushing yards, 3rd best overall, the Chiefs are #5 against the run allowing just 88 yards per game. Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle are all healthy and should be threats to the KC secondary. On the other side of the ball, the defense is surrendering 22 points and 316 yards per game, higher than usual. But this appears to be a pivotal game for this unit and they should step up at home against the champs.
Best Bet: San Francisco ML (-120)
Call it the revenge game as the 49ers still have a bad taste in their mouths for that heartbreaking loss at Super Bowl 58. Andy Reid is 21-4 after a bye week during his career and Mahomes has won 6 straight as an underdog, but this one seems like the 49ers find some way to hand KC its first loss of the season.
