Last week was the ‘must win’ game for the Jets as they took on the Patriots. They went on to lose that game in the final seconds to drop to a stunning 2-6. So this week, New York is in another must win game as they host the Texans. The Jets open as a short one point favorite but Houston is playing better football of late making Thursday Night Football intriguing.
New York Jets
The Jets were supposed to challenge for the Super Bowl but now are on the verge of missing the playoffs after their fifth straight loss. New York didn’t turn the ball over and held the Pats to just 247 yards yet found a way to lose. They were the first team in 12 years to lose a game without turning the ball over and holding the opponent to under 250 yards. While the Jets do have Rodgers and Davante Adams, they have to find a way to establish the run. Breece Hall has been the most important offensive player and has to rely on him more often. Over his last three outings, Hall is averaging 133 total yards.
Houston Texans
The Texans are in a real tough spot here playing their road game in four weeks in an 18-day window. That’s a lot of wear on the players and it’s caught up especially at receiver. Houston is already without Nico Collins and now could be without Stefon Diggs, who suffered a knee injury vs the Colts. The passing game has been the Texans strength, but has struggled recently. Over the last three games the average yards per completion has dipped from 7.5 to 6.3. Last year, the Texans last visit to MetLife Stadium didn’t go well, losing 30-6 in a game C.J. Stroud left with a concussion.
Prediction
The Jets have a superb secondary while the Texans have been hurting at the receiver position so we could see a run heavy game from Houston. New York has allowed more than 100 yards in three straight games and are middle of the pack allowing 126 yards per game. Aaron Rodgers has thrown 6 interceptions in the last 4 games so the Jets will also try to run the ball.
THE PICK: UNDER 42.5
Player Prop Best Bets: Joe Mixon & Breece Hall: Anytime TD Parlay: +230
With both Breece Hall and Joe Mixon expected to carry the offensive load for both teams, they should find the end zones, especially when the offenses are inside the five-yard line.
