Chiefs Look to Clinch AFC West on SNF Against Chargers

The AFC West is on the line Sunday Night as the first-place Chiefs host the second-place Chargers. A K.C. victory seals up the division but an L.A. win makes the final few weeks of the season interesting for these divisional foes.

Kansas City Chiefs

The last time the Chiefs didn’t win this division was way back in 2015. They can clinch their 9th straight AFC West title and get one step closer to earning the only first-round bye in the conference. Let’s be honest, this team should not be 11-1. Kansas City got lucky with a blocked field goal against Denver and last week, the Raiders botched the snap as they were getting ready for a game-winning field goal. Still, this team is headed to the playoffs for a 10th straight season but of the Chiefs 11 wins, nine have been by 7 points or less. What’s even more interesting, KC is 5-7 ATS including going 0-6 ATS in the last six games, the longest streak under Andy Reid.

Los Angeles Chargers

After a five win season, the Chargers are 8-4 and on track to return to the playoffs. LA came out of a win in Atlanta where they only had 187 total yards and had to travel across the country. Credit the defense for that win as they picked off Kirk Cousins four times including a pick-six. The run game couldn’t get going against the Falcons, just 56 total yards and the Chargers will be without top back JK Dobbins for the next three weeks. Justin Herbert continues to be efficient with the offense throwing for 13 TDs and just one interception this season. The Chargers have been great for the books, going 5-1 ATS in the last six games.

Best Bet: Chiefs -4

Despite always cutting it close, the Chiefs have one of the most balanced offense and defense in the NFL. Being at home in prime time also is a huge edge and while LA’s defense can keep this close, the lack of a run game will hurt the Chargers. The Chiefs can run the ball, control time of possession and chew up the clock. Chiefs win, cover the spread and clinch the AFC West.
