Sports betting in Alaska
Alaska has some of the most restrictive gambling laws in the country. There’s not even an interesting backstory to the almost complete prohibition of gambling—it’s just been illegal ever since Alaska was granted statehood in 1959. There’s never been a significant effort to liberalize or revise these laws.
There are a few nominal forms of gambling available in Alaska but none are particularly interesting to players used to ‘Las Vegas style’ action. There’s a huge cruise ship industry in Alaska during warmer months and these ships often have full casinos that are opened when in Canadian or International waters.
A few Native American gaming facilities exist in Alaska but they’re extremely small and limited to bingo and ‘pull tab’ type games. Charity gambling is legal on a very limited scale as are home poker games.
