Episode 3 of Dancing With The Stars saw a contestant withdraw rather than get voted off. Ray Lewis threw in the towel, claiming that his doctors had advised him to quit dancing. Either that, or else his heart just wasn’t in it and the ‘injury angle’ allowed him to save face. When we handicapping the Season 28 field we made it clear that Lewis would be a contender assuming he was ‘focused’. He wasn’t, and legit or not the injury is a convenient way to get him out of the field without him actually being eliminated.
Once again, Lamar Odom had the lowest score but it was somewhat of a surprise that he ended up ‘Bottom 2’. Clearly, the judges have been cutting him some slack. He’s not the only bad dancer in the field but he’s the only one who was found near death in a Nevada brothel, had 12 strokes and 6 heart attacks and has trouble remembering things. He’s getting better every week and he’s still committed to the process which is definitely to his credit.
The second lowest score went to Sean Spicer (15) with Karamo Brown dropping a pitiful 16. The other ‘Bottom 2’, however, was Kel Mitchell despite a very pedestrian score of 20. That’s made him our top choice to be eliminated on Episode 4. He’s got an average score of 18.7 which ranks #7 out of the remaining field but yet he was *still* bottom two? The writing is on the wall, my man. Same goes for Karamo Brown who has been a profound disappointment. Karamo has the #8 average score (17.3) and unlike Sean Spicer and Lamar Odom isn’t ‘press worthy’. Lamar and Sean bring in media interest and that will keep them around long after their scores warrant.
The big drop in the ratings from Week 1 to Week 2 was definitely more than a short term phenomenon. The rating/share was 0.8/4 once again though the viewership saw a slight uptick from 6.4 million to 6.58 million.
