Warrants were issued on Friday for the arrests of New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar by the Miramar, Florida police department from an incident that occurred Wednesday, May 13. Baker has been charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, while Dunbar has been charged with four counts of armed robbery. There haven’t been many details of the nature of the gathering, but Florida has recently removed their stay-at-home order to allow businesses to reopen.
Per the initial police report, Baker took money and watches from the victims while armed with a semi-automatic firearm. Dunbar allegedly assisted Baker in taking the money and valuables from the attendees at a party in Miramar. Baker ordered a third member to shoot a person who entered the party, but the gun was never fired.
Both Baker and Dunbar are believed to have taken the following — including an $18,000 Rolex watch and a Hublot worth $25,000. Baker and Dunbar also allegedly took over $7,000 in cash. Dunbar’s attorney, Michael Grieco, issued a statement claiming that five witnesses can exonerate Dunbar.
What is interesting is the fact that one witness told police that Baker and Dunbar lost over $70,000 at a party in Miami days earlier from gambling and some from high-stakes cards.
The New York Giants released a statement on Baker’s arrest, via Dan Duggan of The Athletic, which stated, “We are aware of the situation. We have been in contact with DeAndre. We have no further comment at this time.”
Baker, who will be entering his second year in the NFL, recorded 61 tackles for the Giants in his rookie season. He was expected to be a focal point in 2020 for a New York secondary that got blasted most of the year last year. Dunbar spent the first five seasons of his career with the Washington Redskins and posted a career-high four interceptions last season. The Seattle Seahawks acquired Dunbar from the Redskins for a 2020 fifth-round pick back in March.
