The sports betting sponsorship feeding frenzy continues unabated. The professional leagues that worked for years to deny US citizens the freedom to bet on sports are now trying to claw every possible dollar out of the nascent industry. Not that there’s anything wrong with this–to the contrary, this is what they should have been doing all along.
BetMGM picked up deals with a couple of NFL teams in the past few weeks as they became ‘official betting partner’ of the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans. It looks as if BetMGM will be one of the few sportsbooks serving Tennessee after their hilariously bad sports betting regulations go into effect on November 1.
Were it not for their absurdly high tax rates (36%) and licensing fees, Pennsylvania would be one of the better sports betting jurisdictions in the United States. There are ten companies currently serving the Keystone State though now that all of the big players have set up shop there’s unlikely to be much new growth going forward. That leaves a battle for market share and this is a large reason why the Philadelphia Eagles and DraftKings have signed a deal.
DraftKings is now the ‘Official Daily Fantasy Sports Partner and Official Sports Betting Partner of the Philadelphia Eagles’ after signing a multiyear deal with the NFL team. The Field Club at Lincoln Financial Field will now be known as ‘The DraftKings Field Club’ and will launch as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic allows live fans at the venue. In addition, the team will plug DraftKings throughout a number of channels:
In addition to receiving field club naming rights at Lincoln Financial Field, DraftKings’ branding will also be integrated throughout a number of the Eagles’ social media channels and digital assets, including practice livestreams, in-game branding, video boards, and signage at Lincoln Financial Field. DraftKings will also have a strong branding presence on Eagles-affiliated broadcasts and will have sponsorship activations included in the team’s annual NFL Draft Party.
DraftKings will also deliver Eagles Stat Showdown, a new free-to-play game that will give fans the opportunity to win weekly prizes throughout the NFL season. More information on Eagles Stat Showdown presented by DraftKings can be found by visiting draftkings.com/eagles-stat-showdown.
Ezra Kucharz, Chief Business Officer of DraftKings, had these comments about the deal:
“Philadelphia is home to some of the most passionate football fans, and we could not be more excited to join forces with the Eagles. Be it fans at home, on the DraftKings mobile app, or inside Lincoln Financial Field, we look forward to introducing Eagles fans and DraftKings customers alike to an all-encompassing DraftKings experience.”
Catherine Carlson, Senior Vice President of Revenue and Strategy for the Philadelphia Eagles had this to say:
“Our partnership with DraftKings presents many new and exciting opportunities that will help drive the fan experience at Lincoln Financial Field to the next level. DraftKings has established itself as an emerging leader in the sports and entertainment space with an already strong presence in Philadelphia. We look forward to a successful future with DraftKings and showcasing the value of our shared vision in fun and engaging ways for our fans.”
