- The Detroit Tigers have announced today that BetMGM is now an official gaming partner of the MLB baseball club.
- BetMGM recently launched their online poker product in the up and coming Michigan market.
- The primary focus of the deal will be branding with plenty of signage on scoreboards and elsewhere at Comerica Park.
BetMGM and partners Entain PLC last week announced the launch of the BetMGM poker platform in Michigan. Today, Entain has distributed a press release announcing that BetMGM is now an ‘official gaming partner’ of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Detroit Tigers. BetMGM is the sports betting and interactive gaming division of MGM Resorts (NYSE: MGM) operated in partnership with Entain PLC (LSE: ENT). BetMGM has been very busy of late lining up partnerships and just yesterday announced a content partnership with the sports audio platform Audacy.
The partnership between BetMGM and the Detroit Tigers looks to be pretty typical as these things go. You can expect to see plenty of BetMGM branding at Comerica Park on scoreboards and elsewhere. There will also be a number of ‘fan focused promotions’ (would you focus a promotion at non-fans or, for that matter, people who hated the team?) as well as ‘integrated social media content’. If you want to get more specific on *where* the BetMGM branding will appear at Comerica Park I can do that to thanks to this blurb from the press release:
As part of the multi-year deal, BetMGM will be integrated across the Tigers’ digital and social platforms, including the MLB Ballpark App. BetMGM signage will also be prominently featured at Comerica Park, including on the out-of-town scoreboard and the speed pitch LED board.
Peter Kent, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, is pleased to have BetMGM in the team’s promotional fold:
“We’re excited to expand our relationship with BetMGM to feature the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Park. Our fans will enjoy the enhancements this partnership provides to their experience, both at the ballpark and in rooting on the Tigers from home.”
BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost has become one of the stars of the ‘sports betting press release quote’ genre and offered this comment:
“From day one, a main priority for us in Michigan was to develop deep relationships with its beloved sports teams, and we are excited to expand on that today with our partnership with the Tigers. We look forward to engaging with the Tigers fan base and offering best-in-class promotions and perks only available on BetMGM.”
David Tsai, President, Midwest Group, MGM Resorts, also got in on the three way quote action:
“The Detroit Tigers are a central part of the Michigan sports scene and bring an undeniable energy to the city. All of us at MGM Grand Detroit are ready to enthusiastically welcome Tigers and sports betting fans to our BetMGM Sports Lounge, before, during, and after games and provide an opportunity to experience America’s pastime in the most innovative and exciting way possible.”
The Tigers will begin the 2021 Major League Baseball season on Thursday, April 1 as they host the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park.
At the time of publication, Ross Everett has a long position in MGM.
