- The World Series of Poker (WSOP) and GGPoker have announced their schedule of online WSOP events for international players.
- The schedule begins with the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series on Saturday, May 1.
- US based players compete at WSOP.com and have their own schedule of events.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is tentatively planning a full schedule of live events for Las Vegas this fall but that doesn’t mean an end to the online competitions that began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the WSOP will run a full slate of events online for both US and international competitors. The international competitions are hosted in conjunction with GGPoker and they have just released the schedule of events for the 2021 online series.
The online WSOP events will kick off on Saturday, May 1 with the WSOP Super Circuit Online Series running through May 30. The WSOP Super Circuit Online Series offers a guaranteed $100 million USD in prizes and a total of 18 WSOP Circuit ring events will headline the series. Each winner of these events will get a ‘coveted WSOP Circuit gold ring’. There’s a new touch this year as WSOP Circuit rings will also be awarded to cash game specialists.
US players get into action on July 1 when the WSOP Online 2021 begins. The international compon ent of the event will start on August 1. Here’s how the press release announcing the news explained the schedule:
A total of 33 bracelets will be won on WSOP.com, with the same number of bracelet tournaments at GGPoker. Last year’s WSOP Online Main Event at GGPoker was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest prize pool in a single online poker tournament, boasting a massive $27.5 million in prizes.
There will also be online satellite tournaments held at both WSOP.com and GGPoker starting on August 1. Winners of these events will receive entry tickets to the World Series of Poker ‘Main Event’ in Las Vegas beginning on November 4. This event–officially known as the World Series of Poker $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship–is the most famous and richest poker tournament in the world and has been held annually since 1970. A ‘who’s who’ of poker legends have won the event including Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, Johnny Chan and Stu Ungar.
GGPoker will also host the WSOP Winter Online Super Circuit later in the year, with dates to be confirmed.
Gregory Chochon, Director of the World Series of Poker, is excited about the prospects of the crowded online schedule for 2021:
“The bar has been set with last year’s record-breaking series, but we’re hoping to raise it even higher this year. One of our goals is to provide as many people the chance to become champions as possible. However, we know not everyone can or is comfortable traveling yet, so continuing a robust online bracelet offering in 2021 is a must.”
GGPoker Head of Poker Operations Steve Preiss added these comments:
“When GGPoker & WSOP partnered in 2020, we broke world records. Our plans for 2021 are to offer even more to our customers. With massive tournaments, WSOP gold bracelets & rings, and a route into the live WSOP Main Event in November, we hope players will love what we have in store for them.”
Additional details on all online WSOP events will be released over the coming weeks and months, and will include tournament dates, buy-ins and other important information.
