True, much of the post PASPA US sports betting market has been a complete dumpster fire. You can count the states that have more or less gotten it right on your fingers and have a couple left over. Arizona has decent competition but the less said about the sleazy machinations of the state government the better. In fact, today’s story is positive news so we won’t mention the mess behind the scenes in Arizona at all.
One of the bright spots of US sports betting post PASPA has been the growth of Betfred Sports. They were the first sportsbook to take a retail bet in Colorado–the state that has gotten it ‘most right’–and they’re currently live in currently live in Arizona, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Washington and Colorado, with Nevada and Virginia pending regulatory approval. Arizona is the latest state in their betting portfolio and after a ‘soft launch’ in January they’re up and running with mobile sports betting.
Betfred has partnered with the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort operated by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and is in the process of building a state of the art sportsbook at the property set to open later this year. For now, they’ve got betting kiosks and a temporary betting station located at the WKP Sports & Entertainment Bar Thursday through Sunday of each week. The We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort is in Fort McDowell, Arizona which is just over a half hour from Phoenix. The We-Ko-Pa property just opened in December 2020 and I’ve never actually been there what with the COVID pandemic and all. It looks like a first rate property and I’ll definitely check it out the next time I’m out West which will hopefully be sooner than later. Here are a couple of the Betfred Sports kiosks:
I’m sure you know where to get the Betfred Sports app for Android or iOS.
Mary Ketterling, general manager of the casino, had this to say about the availability of Betfred Sports mobile apps:
“Three months ago, the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort and Betfred Sports introduced sports betting kiosks at our beautiful desert gaming destination, and most recently opened a temporary full-service sportsbook. Adding mobile apps is one more way we can offer Arizonans an easy, user-friendly and unparalleled sports betting experience.”
Bryan Bennett, COO of Betfred Sports, is happy to have his company’s mobile app live in another state:
“I could not be more excited to expand our Betfred Sports betting apps into the Arizona market. We look forward to offering customers in the entire state unique experiences that they can’t access on any other platform. Our team has worked diligently to bring this to fruition.”
So congrats to Betfred and best of wishes for the future. I’m really looking forward to seeing them taking bets at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas–not sure what the regulatory hold up is. I know that the sportsbook itself is ready to go.
