- BetMGM has launched its sports betting mobile app in Louisiana.
- BetMGM launched a horse racing app in December 2021.
- The company has no retail presence in Louisiana but they own two properties in nearby Mississippi–the Beau Rivage and Gold Strike.
Mobile betting is now up and running in Louisiana following a Friday, January 28 launch. The first wave of mobile sportsbook apps were ready to go as soon as the proverbial ‘switch was flipped’ and include Penn National Gaming’s Barstool Sportsbook , Rush Street Interactive’s BetRivers Sportsbook brand and Caesars Entertainment’s Caesars Sportsbook. It should come as no surprise that BetMGM has launched their mobile app in Louisiana. I probably should mention that the BetMGM press release announcing their Louisiana launch had a 9:00 AM Eastern timestamp while the Caesars Sportsbook press release is timestamped 9:03 AM Eastern. By this metric at least, I guess you can say that BetMGM was there first.
Unlike Caesars, MGM Resorts doesn’t have a ‘brick and mortar’ presence in Louisiana. They have two properties in neighboring Mississippi–the Gold Strike in Tunica and the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Both properties offer BetMGM retail sports betting. In addition, BetMGM launched a horse racing app in Louisiana a couple of months ago. The press release announcing their Louisiana mobile sportsbook launch emphasizes their two Mississippi properties as well as the BetMGM app’s integration with MGM Rewards (that’s their loyalty program which used to be called ‘M Life Rewards’). Here’s some more info from the press release:
BetMGM, a leading sports betting and iGaming operator, today launched its online sports betting platform in Louisiana, giving customers access to a wide variety of betting options as well as experiences at MGM Resorts’ Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Mississippi.
The BetMGM app offers a user-friendly sports betting experience, making it easy to customize pre-game, in-play, futures, and parlay wagers. BetMGM’s integration with MGM Rewards, MGM Resorts’ reimagined loyalty rewards program launching Feb. 1, 2022, gives Louisiana customers the opportunity to redeem gameplay for world-class accommodations at MGM Resorts properties nationwide. Resorts include Beau Rivage and Gold Strike in Mississippi, Bellagio and MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Borgata in New Jersey, and MGM National Harbor in Maryland.
The app is available for download now and if you’re in Louisiana you can start betting immediately–as long as you live in one of the 55 out of 64 parishes that approved sports betting. BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt is excited about the launch in Louisiana and notes that the company’s properties in Mississippi sees plenty of visitors from the ‘Pelican State’:
“We’re thrilled that the BetMGM Sportsbook is one of the first mobile sports betting apps to launch in Louisiana, just in time for this weekend’s NFL playoffs. We know that many Louisianians visit our retail sportsbooks in Mississippi, and we’re pleased to provide another betting option that rewards customers with one-of-a-kind experiences not available on any other platform.”
Chris Gumiela, VP of BetMGM Marketing for MGM Resorts International, hit some of the same themes:
“Today’s announcement is exciting as many guests who visit Beau Rivage call Louisiana home. The BetMGM Louisiana app complements our BetMGM Book Bar & Grill, offering customers a great way to interact with our brand.”
Louisiana is the 20th US market in which BetMGM has a mobile and/or retail presence.
