For the first time since 1967, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been crowned Stanley Cup champions—at least in a virtual setting.
Ahead of the real 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, EA Sports released its annual simulation on Saturday, predicting that the Maple Leafs will end their decades-long title drought by defeating the Colorado Avalanche in a seven-game Final. According to the simulation, Toronto becomes the first Canadian team to win the Cup since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.
Toronto’s simulated postseason run began with a win over the Ottawa Senators in the First Round, followed by victories against the Florida Panthers in the Second Round and the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final.
In the Western Conference, the Avalanche advanced past the Dallas Stars, Winnipeg Jets, and Vegas Golden Knights before falling to the Maple Leafs in the Final.
While purely speculative, EA Sports has a history of making accurate predictions. The company correctly forecasted the winner of the recent 4 Nations Face-Off, even predicting that Connor McDavid would score the overtime game-winner in the final.
The actual 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Saturday, with Game 1 between the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
