From pipe dream to reality, Fight Island is happening in July, folks!!
For months now, UFC president Dana White has been doing everything humanly possible to continue the sport through a global pandemic that has shut down sports literally everywhere. The martial arts world has been in the spotlight since it is one of the only sporting events to happen consistently since March. The UFC has officially set the standard on how to run event operations for other leagues around the world.
‘Fight Island’ isn’t just an absurd story anymore, it’s coming to our homes the entire month of July. An official location of Yas Island in Abu Dhabi (Capital city of United Arab Emirates) has finally been revealed to the public, and the island will host consecutive UFC events throughout the entire month of July.
Fight Island’s debut will occur for UFC 251, which is scheduled to take place on July 11. The Main Event features a Welterweight Title Fight between two massive powerhouses: Kamaru Usman (current champion) and Gilbert Burns. This fight in itself is big enough to be its own event, so the ratings should skyrocket upon the island’s debut event.
The following three UFC Fight Night’s at the island will take place on Wednesday, July 15 (Kattar vs. Ige), Saturday, July 18 (Figueiredo vs. Benavidez), and Saturday, July 25 (Whittaker vs. Till).
