In the United States, NASCAR along with the PGA and UFC have already announced a return to action. The UFC will have a big fight card on Saturday night while NASCAR will run a race from Darlington, SC on Sunday. Both events will be held without fans which will likely be the ‘standard operating procedure’ for the foreseeable future. The international soccer world is also slowly heading toward a return with Germany’s top flight Bundesliga set to resume play on Saturday, May 16.
Several soccer competitions are already back in action although the Bundesliga is by far the largest and most prestigious. Currently on the betting board you’ll find the Belarus Vysshaya League, the South Korea K League and Nicaraguan Primera and the re-addition of the Bundesliga will be a welcome development for soccer betting fans worldwide. The action will resume on Saturday with six fixtures, five of which will start at 9:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time.
The Bundesliga will resume play in Week 26 of their schedule with the hopes that the season can be completed by the end of June. Currently, the final matchday of the season is set for the weekend of June 27 and 28. Saturday’s card will be highlighted by Borussia Dortmund’s Revierderby game with Shalke while Sunday will see the return of defending league champions Bayern Munich who travel to Union Berlin. The week will conclude on Monday with Bayer Leverkusen traveling to Werder Bremen. All games will be played without fans in attendance as the German government has banned ‘mass gatherings’ until August 31. Also returning to action on Saturday will be Germany’s second tier soccer league known as the 2.Bundesliga. They’ll have four games on Saturday and four games on Sunday.
There are now rumors afoot that Spain’s La Liga will resume play in late June with a speculated return date on the 26th of the month. Barcelona’s first team will return to training on Friday with players taking part in individual workouts. All Barca players have been tested for COVID-19 with no positive results. Some La Liga insiders have indicated that the season would return on June 20 and end on July 26 with 11 rounds of matches played in that stretch. The plan is to have games on Saturday and Sunday as well as Wednesday and Thursday. A La Liga spokesman has denied that any dates have been set although confirmed that the plan is to return to play ‘in June’.
