We’ve talked about the potential—and limitations–of the Washington State sports betting marketplace over the past few days. There’s a lot to like including a sizable population making the Evergreen State the largest jurisdiction West of the Mississippi with legal sports betting. On the other hand, there’s plenty of limitations brought about by the usual boneheaded regulatory and licensing and the complete lack of mobile betting.
There’s enough upside that you’re going to see plenty of action over the next couple of months and without mobile betting it’ll all be at the retail level. BetMGM and FanDuel has already arrived and next up on the docket is gaming technology powerhouse IGT. IGT originally built a name as a provider of slots and video poker machines to casinos but over the past decade or so have expanded into a myriad of gaming segments including lottery and sports betting. Sports betting is one of their fastest growing segments and the company has reorganized to better focus on its potential along with that of iGaming. IGT has put veteran Las Vegas bookmaker Joe Asher (formerly CEO of William Hill US) in charge of their sports betting efforts.
In addition to a variety of sports betting tech and data tools, IGT also offers a ‘turnkey bookmaking solution’ that has found plenty of customers. The latest is in Washington State where the IGT PlaySports platform will power sports betting at the Angel Of The Winds Casino Resort in Arlington, Washington. The Angel of the Winds property is operated by the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians and is in a great location approximately an hour north of Seattle depending on the route and prevailing traffic conditions. IGT PlaySports products will form the foundation of the Angel of the Winds Casino’s sportsbook for retail and the nonsensical ‘on premise mobile betting’.
Travis O’Neil, Angel Of The Winds Casino Resort CEO, is pleased to be working with a proven industry leader as his property launches their sportsbook:
“Angel Of The Winds Casino Resort patrons will be able to experience this new and exciting form of gaming from anywhere on our property, thanks to IGT’s omnichannel PlaySports platform. IGT’s comprehensive PlaySports solution, paired with the company’s extensive experience and expertise, will enable us to offer a world-class sports betting operation for many years to come.”
Enrico Drago, IGT CEO Digital & Betting, is equally excited to see his company’s PlaySports platform entering a new sports betting jurisdiction:
“As the leading choice for U.S. operators to power their sports betting enterprises, IGT PlaySports is thrilled to add Angel Of The Winds Casino Resort to our growing list of customers. Our proven all-in-one PlaySports technology was designed to offer maximum flexibility for operators of all sizes to seamlessly establish exciting sports betting programs.”
Drago was recently appointed to head the new IGT Digital & Betting business segment which aggregates the company’s sports betting and iGaming products.
IGT’s turnkey products have started to show considerable popularity amongst tribal gaming properties that are entering the sports betting business for the first time. In addition to their launch in Washington, IGT also announced their entry into Wisconsin in early September in partnership with the Oneida Nation Reservation owned Oneida Casino in Green Bay.
