- The Clark County Zoning Commission has approved a plan for a ‘tailgate zone’ in the Luxor Las Vegas parking lot.
- The tailgating facility will be active for Las Vegas Raiders home games as well as other events at Allegiant Stadium.
- MGM Resorts is calling the tailgating venue the ‘Bud Light Beer Garden’.
Before the 2020 NFL season, MGM Resorts came up with the idea for a 130,000 square foot ‘tailgate zone’ for Las Vegas Raiders home games. Unfortunately, the 2020 season ended up being played without fans in attendance at Raiders games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, MGM put the plan on the back burner until further notice.
In late April, MGM put the tailgate zone back into play for the 2021 NFL season. It was approved by the Clark County Zoning Commission and now the company has big plans for what they’re calling the ‘MGM Resorts Stadium Walk Experience’. Late last week, MGM Resorts issued a press release with more details of what they’ve got in mind. They’ve kicked the idea around for awhile now without much specificity. The plans initially called for ‘a 130,000-square-foot area’ of the southeast outdoor parking lot at the Luxor to host ‘temporary outdoor events with temporary structures’.
The tailgate zone plan even got a mention from MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle during a quarterly earnings call:
“We’re creating a large pregame environment outside of Mandalay (Bay) and Luxor, which would be pretty special. You’d walk over the (Hacienda Avenue) bridge to go to the game and come back (to the) tailgate party.”
Raiders President Marc Badain has also endorsed the plan:
“We’ve been in communication with them (MGM) about how they want to create a party-type environment for people coming from the Strip. It will be part of the experience of going to a game and all the fans bonding as they walk across. I think it’s going to be pretty special.”
Now let’s fill in some details from the recent MGM Resorts press release: the entire experience will be called the ‘MGM Resorts Stadium Walk’. Since the tailgate zone is in the parking lot of the Luxor they’re calling it along with the Mandalay Bay the ‘host properties’. Here’s what Chuck Bowling, president and COO of Mandalay Bay and Luxor, had to say about the plan:
“The upcoming football season is going to be more exciting than ever, especially in Las Vegas, as we welcome professional football fans into Allegiant Stadium for the first time. The experience we’ve created with MGM Resorts Stadium Walk will allow guests to build an entire Las Vegas getaway around each game, where they can enjoy the energy of a tailgate party on The Strip with the convenience of being right next door to the stadium.”
Obviously, they’ve made hotel packages available and you can find out more about those at the Stadium Walk website:

As for the tailgate zone itself, they’re calling it the ‘Bud Light Beer Garden’. Here’s the 4-1-1 from the press release:
Located on The Strip at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Hacienda Ave., the Bud Light Beer Garden is set to become the ultimate outdoor gameday getaway as fans come from around the country to root on their home team in Las Vegas’ new stadium. With complimentary admission, the Bud Light Beer Garden will be an immersive venue for fans attending the game or simply looking to be a part of the gameday energy. Complete with a host, DJs and other live entertainment; interactive games including cornhole, football challenges, life-size Jenga and chess; and elevated food & beverage packages, the Bud Light Beer Garden will create new football traditions for fans, home and away. Food and beverage packages featuring MGM Resorts’ restaurants Beerhaus, Diablo’s Cantina, International Smoke and Public House can be purchased at kiosks throughout the venue.
On each Las Vegas gameday, the Bud Light Beer Garden will become an electric interactive environment beginning four hours before kickoff. Throughout the season, professional sports legends will make appearances to talk sports and provide insights on the week’s football team matchups. BetMGM, MGM Resorts’ sports wagering and gaming platform and one of the leading U.S. sports betting providers, will have on-site brand ambassadors educating interested sports bettors and supporting fans who want to set up a BetMGM Nevada mobile sports account.

Were I the sort that is predisposed to tailgate before football games this sounds like fun. Raiders game days will be a madhouse on the Strip anyway so good for MGM Resorts to find a way to leverage it to their benefit.
