Coming off a few weeks of elite, world-class play, the World Golf Championships in Mexico this week may look a little weaker at first glance. However, this is far from a weak field, as studs Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods will all hit the greens of Club de Golf Chapultepec Thursday morning.
This par-71 is roughly 7,350 yards and is another course that has kikuyu grass, similar to last week’s tournament at Riviera. Club de Golf Chapultepec has been the venue of the WGC Mexico for the last three years and has featured winners who posted odds of 20-1 or lower in each of the past three events. Sea level will be something to pay attention to this weekend, as the higher the altitude, the longer the ball travels (7,800-8,000 feet above sea level).
This is a no-cut event with roughly 70 golfers. Since the field is quite small and past events have catered to the top players, I would highly suggest laying money on a few of the top ten golfers listed below.
Odds to Win WGC – Mexico (Top 10)
Rory McIlroy (+500)
Dustin Johnson (+800)
Jon Rahm (+1000)
Justin Thomas (+1100)
Adam Scott (+1800)
Webb Simpson (+1800)
Xander Schauffele (+1800)
Hideki Matsuyama (+2000)
Tommy Fleetwood (+2000)
Bryson DeChambeau (+2500)

Dustin Johnson at +800 odds is a ‘safe’ starting point, as he has won this event twice in the first three years this course hosted this event. Rory McIlroy, who is the favorite at +500, had a rough outing last weekend, but will be looking to bounce back this week. He has finishes of 7th in 2017 and runner-up last year. You may be chasing a little bit here, but Adam Scott is on absolute fire coming off a win last week at the Genesis Invitational. Scott is currently getting +1800 odds and may have just enough value to make it a solid pick. When you’re hot, you’re hot, and Scott is feelin’ it. One of my favorite plays of the week is young stud Xander Schauffele. Currently getting +1800 odds, Schauffele thrives in no-cut events and has two outright wins in the past year in such events.
Favorite Play of the WGC – Mexico: Rory McIlroy (+500)
Off the Wall Play: Xander Schauffele (+1800)
