Australia based sports betting provider PointsBet (ASX: PBH) has made significant inroads into the US betting market over the past couple years and nowhere is their success more evident than in Colorado. Colorado is becoming one of the new epicenters of sports betting with 21 mobile apps available in-state along with 17 retail betting locations. Most significantly, their highly competent gaming oversight and player-friendly regulatory frameworks portents well for even more growth in the months to come. PointsBet now operates in six of the states that have gotten sports betting right–Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and New Jersey–along with the ‘too big to fail’ tax and regulation crazy Illinois market.
PointsBet has been extremely proactive with sponsorships in Colorado including deals with the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL and Denver Nuggets of the NBA. They’ve now added another local sponsorship, this time announcing that they will be the ‘Official Sports Betting Partner’ of the Korn Ferry Tour’s TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes. The Korn Ferry Tour is something of a ‘developmental league’ for the PGA Tour and this will be the third annual TPC Championship Colorado scheduled for July 5 to 11. Here’s how the press release announcing the partnership phrased it:
PointsBet, a premier global sportsbook operator, announced today a multiyear, exclusive partnership with the Korn Ferry Tour’s TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, designating PointsBet the “Official Sports Betting Partner” of the tournament. The third annual event will take place July 5-11, 2021 at TPC Colorado and will feature the PGA TOUR’s next stars who currently compete on the Korn Ferry Tour.
In becoming the “Official Sports Betting Partner” of the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, PointsBet gains sponsorship exclusivity throughout the multiyear relationship, spanning retail and online sports betting, daily fantasy, and online casino gaming options. PointsBet will also garner brand visibility across various on-course, in-person, and digital assets, and will additionally introduce a “Stay Sharp Golf Challenge,” providing interactive activities from Tuesday to Sunday of tournament week, as well as an onsite “PointsBet Lounge,” offering food and beverage, seating and tables, power outlets, and high-speed Wi-Fi for anyone on the tournament grounds.
Johnny Aitken, PointsBet USA CEO, emphasized PointsBet’s ‘Colorado roots’ and their commitment to the state:
“PointsBet is the only major sports betting operator headquartered in Colorado, and as a result, we take a great amount of pride in being able to invest and actively participate in the local community. We are thrilled to join forces with the TPC Colorado Championship team – they make a positive impact in our home state year after year, and they also recognize the synergies between golf and sports betting just like our forward-thinking partners at the PGA TOUR and NBC Sports. We look forward to innovating and contributing alongside TPC Colorado and the Korn Ferry Tour for years to come.”
PointsBet’s US headquarters is located in Denver’s up and coming LoDo district right off of 17th Street near Union Station and Coors Field. Their Denver offices were designed by Abel Design Group and almost make me want to get an honest job:
Drew Blass, Tournament Director of the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, is happy to have one of the top brands in sports betting as a partner:
“We are excited to partner with PointsBet. As a renowned global brand with its U.S. headquarters in Colorado, PointsBet has an exciting vision for growing fan engagement and providing innovative sports betting products. This partnership will allow us to make an even larger impact in our local community, which is always the key priority for our tournament.”
Look for more sports betting related companies to establish offices in Colorado. Once the COVID-19 pandemic is behind us (hopefully) for good the industry is going to explode in the Centennial State.
