San Diego State Visit Boise State Friday: Odds and Predictions

by in NCAAF on

Fresh off a road win at UNLV, Boise State returns home to take on the Aztecs as they moved up to No.15 in the country. The Broncos have five games left, all winnable, and it appears they have to go 5-0 to have any hopes of getting into the playoffs. Boise State are huge favorites this week and have recently looked unstoppable.

Boise State Broncos

The Boise State Broncos overcame adversity against UNLV as they trailed into the fourth quarter before finally coming away with a 29-24 win. The Broncos won the turnover battle, but were only 3 of 15 on third down conversions. Still, Maddux Madsen threw for 209 yards and one touchdown, while Aston Jeanty, who is in contention for the Heisman, rushed for 128 yards and a TD. Because of Jeanty, the Broncos are No.2 in the country averaging 274.9 yards per game and No.4 overall in total yards averaging 504.6 YPG.

San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs lost a tight one last week to Washington State 29-26 in a game San Diego State led into the fourth quarter but allowed 15 straight points to fall to the Cougars. SDS outgained WSU 414-375 yards and Danny O’Neil threw for 195 yards and one interception, while Marquez Cooper rushed for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Aztecs have been involved in close games of late as their last four have been decided by 3 points of less. But this is a huge step up in class against a ranked team, with playoff aspirations.

Ashton Jeanty: OVER Rushing Yards

There is no other player in the nation as dangerous as Ashton Jeanty. The running back has hit the 100-yard mark in every game this season and is averaging an eye-popping 8.7 yards per carry. He has found the end zone 18 times, second most in the country. The Aztecs allow 160-yards a game, a number that Jeanty can easily cover…..in the first half.

Prediction

While they averaged 45+ points a game this season, Boise State has only scored 28 and 29 points over the last two weeks. SDS isn’t a great football team and the Broncos will get back to scoring 40+ points a game in a game that shouldn’t be close.

THE PICK: Broncos -23.5
