Episode 3 of Survivor: Edge of Extinction is in the books. That means we’ve got another poor sap eager contestant dispatched to Extinction Island. The producers provided viewers with a little bit of activity on Extinction Island this week. It’s evident that Extinction Island while not Devils Island from Papillon is no picnic. Keith and Reem are made to climb up a sheer cliff to get their daily ration of food which ends up being a meager portion of rice. Incidentally, while getting the link for the Papillon reference above I found out that this great 1973 which starred Steve McQueen had been remade. This ranks up their was the remake of Point Break as movies that shouldn’t have been remade but thankfully the remake died a painful death at the box office.
Even with the shabby cuisine on Extinction Island it’s tiresome listening to Reem whine. She comments that she would have quit the game had Kieth not showed up. And all of a sudden she feels a need to mother her fellow contestant. Granted, Reem is 46 and Keith is 19 meaning that the age differences are correct for ‘mothering’ but it’s still not ‘Survivor-like’ behavior. So they’re on an island in Fiji admittedly in spartan conditions but under the watchful eye of a TV production team. It sucks that they have so little food to eat. If only there was a way to get more food. Uh…maybe try *fishing* since they’re in a country abundant in seafood.
25 year old Chris Underwood will be joining Reem and Keith as he was voted out by the Tribal Council. It’s still unclear what’s going to happen with the group on Extinction Island and whether they’ll figure out a way to thrive or they’ll tap out. It’s also not yet apparent how one (or more) of the exiled contestants will get back in the official competition. The other news of import is that there will be a tribal swap in Episode 4 and the two tribes will break down into three smaller tribes. That’s why you’ll see an entry for ‘??? Tribe’ in a couple of the prop bets below. If you’re joining the show late and are at a loss about the whole Extinction Island gimmick I explained it all last week.
