‘Survivor: Edge of Extinction’ Season Finale Betting Odds

So we’re finally down to the final episode of Survivor: Edge of Extinction. I’m an oddsmaker and not a TV critic but I have to say that I’ve enjoyed this season of Survivor less than any in recent memory. I’ve been complaining about how no one is really getting eliminated when they go to Extinction Island all season so I’ll keep that to a minimum. Not having people eliminated defeats the purpose of the show in the first place. Plus, it also makes it very difficult to set odds on the show when you have no idea who the producers will bring back and under what circumstances.

My other gripe–and again it’s something that makes oddsmaking difficult–is that they didn’t do enough with Extinction Island. The ‘mystique’ of what all of these people were doing there and what–if anything–would have to take place to get them back to the main island was intriguing at first. Unfortunately, it didn’t go anywhere. I strikes me as lazy writing but whatever the reason Extinction Island ended up being a holding pen to corral the poor saps until the end of the series.

Here’s how the odds for the final episode will work–I’ve done odds markets for the first, second and third spots. Since I have no clue how to do odds on the Extinction Island residents’ chances of return to the game let alone winning I’ve got six betting interests in each market. These are the five ‘finalists’ (Rick Devins, Lauren O’Connell, Victoria Baamonde, Gavin Whitson and Julie Rosenberg) and a catch all category for ‘any other result’. The ‘any other result’ will cover everyone on Extinction Island, contestants from previous years, former Big Brother and Naked and Afraid contestants or any other random occurrence.
