We’re back with Week 2 of Survivor: Winners at War and below you’ll find odds on the ultimate winner of Season 40 along with weekly props on the next to be eliminated, TV ratings, next contestant to be pixelated due to nudity, etc. Maybe I should start posting odds on whether or not I’ll make it through the entire season. As I noted in our Week 1 preview, I almost didn’t bother doing odds on Survivor: Winners at War due to my general disgust with the state of reality TV. I get that the entire genre is a ‘work’ and that there’s only a veneer of legitimacy at best. The problem is that even in a predetermined, make believe world the competition has to adhere to whatever form of ‘logic’ they have created therein. If elimination from a show is final, for example, don’t come up with some gimmick to bring contestants back.
I must have missed it in the small print when I was doing the numbers for Week 1 but you know the much maligned ‘gimmick to bring contestants back’? Yep–the ‘Edge of Extinction’ has made a return for another season. Arguably the most universally reviled plot device in the history of reality TV has made a return for another season. I’ll discuss the insiduous nature of the entire ‘Edge of Extinction’ conceit and why it ha rendered reality TV all but unwatchable in a future article.
For now, it’ll just require me to write nonsense like this: Natalie Anderson and Amber Mariano were eliminated at tribal council in Episode 1. Of course, they weren’t *really* eliminated–they just went from the main island to ‘Extinction Island’. Hopefully, the producers have figured out more to do with ‘Extinction Island’ this season. Last year, they were clearly making it up as they went along which resulted in the anti-climactic denouement of the ‘Extinction Island’ rejects playing one pointless challenge to win their way back into the field.
We’ll start with our meta-analysis and covering topics like TV ratings next week. For now, here is the rundown of the official SPORTSINSIDER.COM Survivor: Winners at War betting odds for Episode 2:
