Another week of Survivor: Winners at War is in the books. It’s a good thing the show is taped since were it live no doubt it would all be scrapped due to the global Corona virus freakout. CBS has already halted production of The Amazing Race over the irrational hysteria which is all the more ridiculous being that they had been filming in those virus hotbeds of England and Scotland. You know how funny it is to read articles that were written in 1999 about the impending Y2K meltdown? 20 years from now people will view the current Corona virus panic the same way.
Ethan Zohn was eliminated in Episode 3 though not really since he’s just on ‘Extinction Island’. The elimination was something of a surprise since he’s part of the ‘lead heel faction’ with Parvati Shadow and ‘Boston’ Rob Mariano. Mariano will be the all time leader of ‘days on the island’ by the end of this season. Should someone build a Survivor Hall of Fame at some point he’ll obviously be inducted. The fact that Survivor majordomo Jeff Probst loves him doesn’t hurt:
“When people ask why do you have Rob back so many times? This is why. He’s compelling. He’s amazing to watch. The move to have everyone empty their bags was so smart on so many levels. Even levels that didn’t play out this time. And I do not think this will be the last time it happens. It’s a very powerful move that could be used in many ways. Nor is it the last really cool move we’ll see this season. We have a ton of extremely compelling players and this game is just getting started.”
Survivor producers have to be happy since the show is doing well in the ratings so far this season. Episode 2 brought in more viewers and pulled a better rating than the season premier and Episode 3 held almost the entire audience from the previous week. Episode 3 turned in 7.14 million viewers, essentially unchanged from the previous week’s 7.16 million. More impressively, the audience really seems invested in the proceedings–at least they are based on the arbitrary metric of social media harassment of contestants. Poor Adam Klein was the victim of relentless social media harassment over the past two weeks to the point that he’s leaving social media temporarily.
