- This is the 40th season for CBS’s reality show.
- The entire cast of Season 40 consists of returning players from previous seasons.
- ‘Survivor: Winners at War’ Episode 5 airs March 11 at 8:00 PM Eastern.
Tyson Apostol was ‘eliminated’ in Episode 4 though as we know in the new reality of Survivor he’s not *really* eliminated. He was voted out at the Tribal Council and now he’s inhabitant #5 on the ‘Edge of Extinction’ which is apparently the new name of what was formerly known as ‘Extinction Island’. In all fairness, the producers have improved the ‘Edge of Extinction’ format this year. In fact, it provided some of the best drama in Episode 4 when Ethan Zohn nearly fainted before getting some medical attention. Zohn is a two time cancer survivor (I have no clue if that makes him more susceptible to fainting in adverse conditions). He did make his medical incident sound like Tyson Fury getting off the canvas after being knocked down by Deontay Wilder in their first fight:
“I wanted to set a good example for everyone who has been through a health challenge and think they can’t do it anymore. You can do it. You can get through those hard moments.”
Much respect for anyone that has stared down cancer twice but I’m not sure that any type of ailment that can be treated with a sugar pill is something that can inspire others. So the ‘Edge of Extinction’ is better but that doesn’t mean that it should be there. There’s a fundamental problem with contestants that are eliminated coming back into the competition. I’ve talked about this repeatedly in the past and now it appears that others are catching on as well.
WARDROBE MALFUNCTION PIXELATION CASHES IN EPISODE 4!
After a long drought of unintentional nudity there was a legit ‘wardrobe malfunction’ that necessitated pixelation in Episode 4. Sophie Clarke ‘popped out’ of her bikini top at some point in the episode and although the pixelation was momentary it was definitely there. Should you have any doubt I’ll point you to one of the less sophisticated corners of the Internet: the Reddit ‘Survivor Beauty’ group where the membership discusses the more physically attractive contestants. They’ve got the video clip of the ‘incident’ and have broken it down like a conspiracy theorist analyzes the Zapruder film. There was some brief controversy over the ‘blur’ and whether it was on the water or added to censor nudity. A user named ‘SeanJohnTX’ helpfully renders the verdict saying:
“Nippy nips. Blur is moving up. Water would most likely be stationary or moving down.”
Hopefully there will be plenty more wardrobe malfunctions as the season progresses as it adds a dimension of fun and frivolity that is often lacking.
SOLID RATINGS CONTINUE
The Survivor: Winners at War producers have to be happy because the ratings and viewership are holding up pretty well after four episodes. Episode 4 once again delivered a 1.4 rating and a 7 share pulling over 7 million viewers (7.08). The viewership has dropped each of the past three weeks but by a negligible amount going from 7.16 to 7.14 in Weeks 2 and 3 and 7.08 last week. Unfortunately, our long time TV ratings source TVByTheNumbers has pulled the plug. Until we find another permanent ratings source we’ll get our information from TVSeriesFinale.com.
