- Las Vegas born band The Killers will play atop Caesars Palace during halftime of the Raiders first home game in the new Allegiant Stadium.
- The game kicks off on ABC and ESPN on Monday, September 21 at 5:15 PM Pacific.
- The Killers have recently released their sixth studio album ‘Imploding the Mirage’.
My first wife and I lived in Las Vegas right after we got out of college. We’d often go to a dump near the UNLV campus called ‘The Shark Club’ to see a local band that we both thought were extremely talented. We would tell everyone we knew to go check out this band because they would probably amount to something some day. For one thing, they wrote great songs right out of the chute which is something that many young bands struggle with.
That band was The Killers and they went on to become one of the biggest bands in the world. As in ’28 million albums sold worldwide’ big. I often pat myself on the back for being right about The Killers but even though I got them right I managed to still get them wrong. My ex-wife and I would frequently talk about how we didn’t know if The Killers would ever become a good live band. In the early days, they pretty much just stood there and played. We were confident about their ability to sell albums but not sure about their ability to become a compelling live band. Or else they’d go on to become one of the best live bands in the world.
Their next live performance (which was reportedly taped in advance) will be at halftime during the Las Vegas Raiders first home game and first game ever in the imposing new Allegiant Stadium:
Las Vegas Raiders’ President Marc Badain had this to say about The Killers halftime appearance.
“The Raiders really wanted to pay homage to our new hometown so naturally we were ecstatic to partner with an iconic Las Vegas band like The Killers on this once-in-a-lifetime performance. While fans can’t be with us in person, we hope this exciting halftime show gives those at home a taste of the exceptional entertainment experience awaiting them at future games and events at Allegiant Stadium.”
Unfortunately, the Raiders will be playing the 2020 NFL season without fans at their home games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There’s a good chance The Killers will perform the opening song on Imploding the Mirage called ‘My Own Soul’s Warning’:
