Toronto based Score Media and Gaming–better known under the brand name theScore has announced their forthcoming mobile sportsbook launch in Colorado. The company’s sports betting subsidiary Score Digital Sports Ventures has received final approval from the Colorado Division of Gaming to offer their betting services in the state. The exact launch date hasn’t been announced though a press release indicated it would be ‘later this month’.
In January 2020, theScore announced a deal with Colorado based gaming operator Jacobs Entertainment for market access. Jacobs Entertainment operates The Lodge Casino and The Gilpin Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado as well as several properties in Northern Nevada including Reno’s Sands Regency. In April, 2020 Jacobs Entertainment announced a partnership with the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas to bring a ‘Superbook’ branded mobile wagering platform to Colorado later this year.
Since theScore has been offering mobile betting in New Jersey for awhile now the regulatory approval in Colorado was all but a foregone conclusion. The company received GLI-33 certification in Colorado last month–that’s essentially a technical quality assurance certification–and with the back end technology getting the OK the rest was easy. theScore’s betting app interfaces seamlessly with their very popular sports score and news app for Android and IOS. This app has been downloaded millions of times and was already a ‘go to’ scores source for sports bettors. Making the move into actual betting services was a natural.
John Levy, Founder and CEO of theScore, says that he’s excited to get started in Colorado:
“We can’t wait to launch theScore Bet in Colorado later this month and showcase our incredible betting product to the passionate sports fans there. This regulatory approval is another significant step toward theScore Bet’s multi-state expansion as we roll out our uniquely integrated media and betting experience across the country.”
In May, theScore received a temporary wagering license in Indiana and will begin offering mobile betting services later this year in partnership with Penn National Gaming.
Despite getting off to a slow start due to the COVID-19 pandemic Colorado has quickly become the hottest sports betting market in the United States since it launched on May 1. The state’s Division of Gaming has already awarded licenses to more than two dozen different mobile betting companies along with 19 retail sportsbook permits. Currently, Colorado bettors have access to ten mobile apps and seven retail sportsbooks.
