We live in a strange world. If you had told me 10 years ago that Donald Trump would be President of the United States and that Dana White would be speaking at the 2020 Republican Convention I would have deemed you insane. But here we are–UFC President Dana White is scheduled to speak to the Republican National Convention on Thursday according to a statement released by the Trump campaign.
This struck me as odd when I first heard but this is actually his second RNC appearance. He’s definitely more worthy of respect than the usual political minions that infest events of this type. White is a notoriously hard worker and actually earned his money–unlike the ruling political class who parasitically lives off of the US taxpayer. While he might be given to using coarse language every now and then (OK, pretty much all the time) he’s clearly a very intelligent guy and can be articulate and witty when he wants to be. The question isn’t ‘why is the Republican Party having Dana White speak to their convention?’ but rather’ why would Dana White lower himself to appearing at an event for any political party.”
There’s always the chance it could be a career move and Dana could be considering a move into politics. Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak is definitely vulnerable and has received criticism for his handling of the coronavirus crisis in the state. He’s up for re-election in November, 2022. A less likely target would be Carolyn Goodman’s seat as Mayor of Las Vegas. Then again, the next election isn’t until 2024 at which time Mayor Goodman will be 84 years old. She could opt not to run at that point.
Dana White should come off just fine in his GOP Convention speech even as part of a ‘star studded’ lineup including Ivanka Trump, Rudy Giuliani and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Of course, he’s enough of a loose cannon that there’s always the chance he could go ‘off script’ or accidentally drop an expletive or two. As a result, the oddsmakers at SPORTSINSIDER.COM have come up with a series of propositon wagers on the Dana White speech:
