Wrestlemania is the marquee event of the year for the WWE and for pro wrestling in North America. From relatively humble beginnings on closed circuit TV has become hugely popular both as a PPV attraction and as a live event. It’s drawn a live gate of 70,000+ every year for the past decade including a crowd of 101,763 for Wrestlemania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Last year, the event took place in New Orleans, Louisiana and drew 78,133 to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
It’s also the biggest WWE event in terms of significance. The company pulls out all the stops for Wrestlemania and its where the most significant storylines culminate. In most years, the WWE Championship or other top belt is defended in the main event. This year’s main event already has historic significance as it will feature a women’s match. Ronda Rousey will defend her WWE Raw Women’s Championship in a ‘Triple Threat Match’ against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Additional matches include Brock Lesnar defending his WWE Universal Championship against Seth Rollins and Kurt Angle’s ‘Farewell Match’ against Baron Corbin.
